“ü” Finals – the most confusing page!

Initials are bold / Finals are underlined / Suggested English words are highlighted – sometimes, two words are used with a dot ( · ) in-between, to be read as one / Italic characters are meant to be silent

How to pronounce “ü”?

With lips puckered { } , try to enunciate y~e~e over three seconds……
repeat a few times and keep the gap in between your lips as small as possible.
Now, say {yee}, lips still puckered!

Interesting note: ü, üan, üe, ün, sound like yu, yuan, yue, yun respectively.

Only lü, lüe, nü and nüe are spelt with “ü” Finals.
A few tricky ones are pronounced like “ü” but spelled with “u” Finals.
